I haven’t read this thing, nor would I care to. However, it has nonetheless had a profound (negative) influence in my life. It seems that someone was “inspired” by this thing to make bizarre advances on someone I know. Normally, I wouldn’t care, but this person ended up suspecting me of doing it!

Having glanced over the opening lines of this nauseating garbage, I’m highly offended that anyone would think I would read it, let alone act like an idiot because of it.

What has become apparent to me is that readers of this sort of new age drivel are highly imbalanced and confused individuals, and potentially dangerous!

I urge anyone of sound mind to avoid this book like the plague, and be wary of anyone who reads this sort of thing.

The poem entitled ‘The Invitation’ is a dangerous and political neo-liberal statement. I was dismayed to find out how popular this poem has become in cyberspace, reproduced and forwarded on countless bulletin boards. The poem is cited by mental health professionals as a ’support’ for those suffering from such maladies as depression or bi-polar mood changes, and I wonder whether I am the only one concerned about its popularity and potentially negative impact amongst such needy individuals. The poem has execrable style, soppy New Age sentiments and maddening internal contradictions. Far more dangerous is the philosophy of failing at its heart. It asks “I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul”, sentiments ex-president Clinton might well have shared in his convoluted denials of any wrong-doing in the Lewinsky case. In this world of relative values and no absolute principles, betrayal is not betrayal, and of course it all depends on what you mean by ‘is’. This ‘Invitation’ has at its centre an empty and echoing chamber where moral judgement should reside, and in it conscience is a small and frantic lost bird fluttering around and around without anywhere to perch and rest.

This book is written as if it is a parody of a new age self-help book. I simply can’t believe that any intelligent person would take it seriously. I heard of the poem and it is sort of nice in a new agey way. The book, which I looked at in a bookstore, is just laughable. Come on, people!

The writings and ramblings of an emotional woman. She justifies faithlessness by the needs of our egos to be free! Are you kidding?! If this is poetry or “fine prose” I must be reading another titled book. What a waste of time and money.

Thought this book was well worth the time to read. Enjoyed the ideas of having deeper relationships. From a male point of view, this book will give an insite into the workings of the female physic.
