Summary: Insane or illegal political decisions already solidified require public sale and eventual agreement so that they can be realized with the minimum amount of citizen outcry. U.S. military groups seek justifying “evidence” through the use of torture and instillation of a constant state of fear. We now know that any citizen can be indefinitely detained based on little to no evidence, tortured and mentally destroyed–see the case of Jose Padilla–and this serves to make for a servile, easily controlled populace. Second and third hand politically motivated testimony of foreign intelligence agents becomes gospel long enough for the said political decision to gain support. Subsequent discrediting of the political goal or the evidentiary sources is irrelevant if enough pressure is exerted at the start to convince citizens that the end goal requires immediate action for their benefit. The article seems to imply that the Sunni Awakening in Iraq was created by a think tank within the CIA or Department of Defense. Zarqawi becomes a patsy–a tool for furthering U.S. interests who had to be killed before he could tell anyone what really happened.
